Zen Dog Spa
Services

Zen Dog Spa provides a wide range of services covering all your dog grooming needs under one roof. Whether it’s your puppy’s first groom or your dog’s regular “clip & trim”, our bespoke service is based on breed characteristics, your preferences and your pet’s own nature and health, we can provide the perfect package at competitive and affordable rates.

All canine grooming equipment and tools are professional-salon standard and of course i am a multi-award winning professional dog groomer as well as a life-long dog lover.

Health Check

Your dog’s welfare is my number one priority, so no matter how well i already know him or her, i will always carry out a health check at each grooming session, looking for any common “dog” issues such as signs of allergies or eczema or any specific issues common to your dog’s breed. If flea or tick treatment bathing is advised – I’ll contact you about it first before starting treatment. I’ll advise you quickly of anything that needs your (or your vet’s) attention.

Puppy Package

All puppies need to get used to the big world out there as soon as possible, to help them deal with noise, people and all the new sensations they haven’t yet experienced – and to help them blossom into “good dog citizens”. So grooming your puppy as soon as possible after his or her vaccinations is an ideal way to help with this “puppy socialisation” and getting them used to the sights, sounds and smells of the dog grooming salon! It’s also of course the best thing for puppy’s coat as it grows into adulthood, to have been groomed properly from an early age. Just as with nervous dogs, I’ll never rush grooming your pup and will always handle him or her with plenty of TLC.   Of course my regular “health check” will apply as standard.

Bathing and Drying

Dog bathing in our professional bath, using the Doglyness range of shampoos and conditioners within my salon. Doglyness is certified organic and natural by a third party (ECOGEA), Entirely cruelty-free, Locally produced (in EU), contains NO Nasties and its packaging is completely Plastic-free and biodegradable (made of sugar cane)
Drying – each dog is dried to best fit their need taking in consideration their breed and coat type using our top of the range professional dryers whilst gently using brushes appropriate to your dog’s size & coat; this also helps remove any remaining loose hair.
This service is also ideal for in between full grooms and it can help keep your dog’s coat in top condition and matt-free.

Styling

Clipping – Styling your dog’s coat by clipping is popular for all breeds. i can clip according to your requirements. Each clip style will be tidied up with the scissors to give even cleaner finish. I recommend a “clipped” dog visits every 6 – 8 weeks with you the owner brushing regularly in between visits.

Scissoring – Scissoring is a specialist technique needing an expert hand, shaping and sculpturing the coat in to your desired style. Compare to clipping, scissoring is a time consuming procedure which can reflect in price. Ideal for curly coats, such as Poodles, Bichon Frise and crossbreeds.  I recommend a “scissored” dog visits every 3 – 4 weeks with you the owner brushing regularly in between visits.

Hand-Stripping

This is a specialist technique used mainly on wire-haired breeds such as Border Terriers etc. This technique is the process of pulling each individual dead hair by hand “no clippers/scissors” therefore can be time-consuming which reflects in the price. Main advantages for this is to help keep your dog’s coat texture and colour. This process is not suitable for every dog, to make sure this treatment is suited for your dog please feel free to contact me.

Nail Care

Nail care is an important part of our overall grooming service and should be done regularly either by your groomer or vet. Overgrown nails can become painful for dogs and lead to health issues.

Ear / Eye Cleaning

These are included as standard as part of my overall service at each grooming session and can be booked as a standalone service.

The Bath

Zen Dog Spa uses a bathing system to ensure that your dog is 100% clean.

I use Doglyness because this range is certified organic and natural by a third party (ECOGEA), Entirely cruelty-free, Locally produced (in EU), contains NO Nasties and it packaging is completely Plastic-free and biodegradable (made of sugar cane)

I use Facial spa scrub on every dog's face and gently comb the eye area to remove any debris which may have accumulated there.

Your dog is then rinsed with fresh water until it is squeaky clean.

The final rinse incorporates a Nagayu Spa Treatment to get that ultra clean (at a bacterial level) finish that makes our service so superior and our finish so amazing.

Lavender Wraps

After the bathing process, each dog is gently enveloped in warm chamois wraps infused with Lavender Essential Oil.

Whilst this is deeply relaxing for both dog and bather, the wraps are working hard to absorb most of the water from the dog's coat.

Many dogs dislike the use of a high velocity dryer because it is so loud and this process either eliminates it entirely or reduces the time it takes to dry the dog substantially.

Teeth Clean

A regularly oral hygiene routine is the best way to protect your pet’s dental health.

I use an ultrasound toothbrush and a specially formulated ultrasound toothpaste. Ultrasound reaches deep below the gum line to kill germs and bacteria and cleans the teeth and gums to prevent the build up of plaque and tartar.  At the same time it increases the blood flow to the gums to heal wounds and stop bleeding.

Effectively combats:

  • Gingivitis and periodontitis

  • Oral cavity diseases

  • Plaque and tartar build up

  • Bad breath

The Groom

After the bath, wrap and teeth have been attended to, your dog will be groomed.

This could be anything from a thorough brush out and tidy to a full scissor trim. It is largely up to you, but will of course depend on the condition of your dog upon arrival.

A very high percentage of our clients dogs are designer crossbreeds and they look simply fantastic in full Asian Fusion or a modified version with less leg hair (especially in the winter).

I groom many Yorkies, Maltese, Miniature Schnauzers, and specialise in grooming Cocker Spaniels, Poodles and Bichons.

My grooming experience takes a minimum of two hours for this specialist spa session
